CBBM Lecture: Regulation and physiological roles of endogenous and exogenous lipid supply in brown adipose tissue

Biosketch: Alexander Fischer did his undergraduate studies in the lab of Joerg Heeren at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany and the lab of Jan Nedergaard and Barbara Cannon at the Wenner Gren Institute at Stockholm University in Sweden. During that time, Alex focused mainly on the impact of brown adipose tissue activity and environmental temperatures on the regulation of energy metabolism and thermoregulation in mice. In his PhD work in Joerg Heeren’s lab, he worked on the importance of exogenous and endogenous lipid supply for brown adipose tissue thermogenesis and function. Additionally, he studied pathways regulating lipid and glucose homeostasis in the liver. Alex joined the Farese/Walther lab in 2019. He studies the partitioning of proteins to mitochondria and lipid droplets in adipose tissue and the liver. He is particularly interested in the importance of the binding of transcription factors to lipid droplets and mitochondria, and the physiological consequences of this process
